Orchid Beach on World Heritage Fraser Island is probably closer than you think.  The island is easily accessible by Air or by Four Wheel Drive. Vehicular barges depart Hervey Bay three times daily, or you can cross on the barge at the bottom of the island from Rainbow Beach to Inskip Point.
